A Library in Ajman
The internet and other digital media provide a lot of information which can be supplied within seconds. Same data are available at the same time in different places all over the world. At the same time it creates an intercommunity as the working hypothesis of the new society. Information which has been delivered by books so far, is now a matter of time and technique. In todays society, the presence of information got an “aestethic-challenge”. At the same time a lot of people on the globe are excluded from this technique, which leads even more to a society separated into different classes. Knowledge, as a result of the evaluation of the personal information. People do believe no longer in the transmission of knowledge by dictating given information. knowledge has to emerge from within the individual. Only the knowledge that emerges from within can establish links links with other knowledge of his own and produce individual progress, be useful for thought and action.
So, what is the role of a library in the 21st century ? Is a library old-fashioned or is it a part of our culture which makes us survive ? How does this library has to look about? Is it a public space, linked to other activities in this space? Who can use it? What is the role of the theme library in education? We will read a given text on libraries and analyze it.

Week 2 :
We will discuss the terms “information” and “knowledge”. Students have to find 100 words which we then relate to the project.

- Library Medellin, Columbia, Architecs : Giancarlo Mazzanti
- National French Library Paris, France, Architects : Dominique Perrault

Each student will work out an abstract concept of what a library is about.
